| Astec Acquires Pelletizer Technology |
Astec Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTE) announced today (Sept 30, 2009) the acquisition of pelletizer technology from Industrial Mechanical & Integration ("IMI") located in Walkerton, Ontario, Canada. IMI is a small company with unique machine technology used to make biomass pellets. Rick Minke, President of IMI and key employees have been hired to further develop and promote this new technology, which will now operate as Breaker Technology, Ltd., BioEnergy Division. IMI has been testing the technology for two years and is now making the first group of production machines. According to Dr. J. Don Brock, Chairman and Chief Executive of Astec Industries, Inc. "We are excited about the potential of this new technology. Conventional pellet production machines were designed for easy to use materials and do not always work well with a wide variety of wood species. With this acquisition, Astec Industries, Inc. can provide a one stop solution to customers desiring to own a pellet plant that can process material from round wood all the way to the finished product. We are well positioned to be a turnkey supplier to the growing biomass pellet industry. Many companies in the Astec Industries, Inc. family of companies already make components needed by this market. The acquisition of this technology is in line with our continuing effort to grow the renewable fuel portion of our business, which we believe will be an important part of the renewable energy standards that are being adopted in the USA and around the world."

| New Expanded Series of BXR Series Hydraulic Breakers
Breaker Technology, Inc. (BTI) designs, manufactures and distributes a complete line of attachments including hydraulic breakers, multi-processors, mechanical grapples, pulverizers, shears, crushers and compactors to the aggregate, construction and demolition industries.
Expanding on the BXR Series of Hydraulic Breakers, BTI is introducing 5 new models ranging from 5,000 to 12,000 ft-lbs in addition to the initial BXR160, at 16,000 ft lbs. The series is designed for rugged, continuous duty in demanding breaking applications and offers an extra long stroke design which improves the power-to-weight ratio, providing the widest carrier and power available. Precise tolerances between the piston and cylinder provide high efficiency, blow rate and power. Large cross section upper and lower shock absorbing isolators reduce vibration feedback to the carrier. BTI’s exclusive front head restraint system tightly guides the front head within the housing, reducing loading to the tie rods and the upper portion of the breaker. A narrow box housing design is well suited to tight trenching conditions.
BTI also designs and manufactures stationary and portable rockbreaker systems for the mining, quarrying and recycling industries in addition to a complete line of underground mobile mining vehicles.
BTI products, parts and service are available through an extensive worldwide dealer network.
