6,000 sq. ft. machine shop located in Thornbury, Ontario produced custom machined and fabricated products used in the local agriculture, resort and general industrial markets.
JMG Manufacturing Ltd. produced rock drill replacement parts, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, and rock drill bits.
JMG became Teledyne Canada Mining Products. They began developing the rockbreaker boom systems line and trackless underground mining equipment. Mining Service vehicles such as secondary drill rigs, scissor lifts, crane trucks, and other specialized underground trucks were developed. Other products included ore car dumpers & transfers, backhoe type ditch mockers, airline lubricators, drill carriages, tractor mounted drill rigs, forklifts, and personnel vehicles.
Rockbreaker attachments were introduced.
Pioneered hydraulic rockbreaker systems for underground and surface applications. Service vehicles continued to be improved, and the first mobile rock breakers were developed for draw point and multi-grizzly, applications. Overseas markets were expanded to include Peru, Mexico, and Zambia.
Expansion into the U.S. Quarry market with two U.S. offices located in Solon, OH and Riverside, California. Internationally, mobile equipment was in high demand, and first LP-15 low profile carriers were introduced. Heavy-Duty Mobile Breakers, Scalers, Anfo Loaders, and Fuel Lubrication Trucks along with the Mighty Mover Forklift Truck were added to the product line.
Portable rockbreaker systems were developed for mobile crushing plants in the U.S. aggregate market and rockbreaker system controls were redesigned. The underground mining vehicle line continued to develop, adding the “ALB” Series of Anfo Loading while scalers continued to grow and develop.
The demolition attachment line was introduced to serve the North American construction and demolition markets, while the rock drill parts line was discontinued due to a declining market. BTI introduced the first mobile cassette units for the mining industry.
Teledyne Canada becomes Astec Breaker Technology Ltd. (BTI)
Second and third generation rockbreaker systems were developed for extended reach, easy maintenance, and faster swings.
BTI unleashes the TRX, the largest rockbreaker system in the world. The first quarry and vibratory pick scalers were introduced into the U.S. underground market.
