Buyer / Planner


The preferred candidate will have:

  • A strong commitment to working safely and the willingness to actively participate in our health and safety programs
  • A post - secondary education in a related business discipline
  • A relevant designation such as the APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or equivalent is preferred
  • 2 – 4 years’ experience in purchasing / scheduling in a manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Experience working with an ERP system in a manufacturing environment is desirable

The position responsibilities include:

  • Source vendors for new parts and potential cost savings
  • Review vendor quotes and negotiate purchase price
  • Issue purchase orders and communicate with vendors regarding order status
  • Plan, organize, issue, and distribute work orders pursuant to manufacturing demand
  • Expedite in process work orders to meet customer and production demands
  • Allocate Inventory to work orders
  • Manipulate work orders to suit necessary material substitutions
  • Close work orders and review variances
  • Work with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to streamline manufacture processes
  • Coordinate requested design changes and document ROI argument for changes
  • Prepare manufactured items back order report to assist Production Leaders and Supervisors
  • Work with CSR's to communicate product availability to our customers
  • Coordinate delivery priorities and shipping arrangements with warehouse personnel
  • Enter transfer orders required to facilitate movement of goods between branches
  • Manage return of items to vendors
  • Coordinate non-conformance and Warranty Issues related to purchased items in the Product Family
  • Review and assess safety stock requirements of components and finished goods for review by the Purchasing / Traffic Manager
